New LEGO Sets in 2026 and How Long They Take to Build

By The SetSquad Team · Updated September 5, 2026

The major new LEGO sets of 2026 range from about 5 hours to about 30 hours of building. The Lord of the Rings: Minas Tirith (8,278 pieces) leads at an estimated 22 to 30 hours, while most of the year's headline releases land between 6 and 14 hours, which is a weekend rather than a season.

New sets are the hardest to plan for, because nobody has built them yet and there are no reviews to tell you what you are in for. Here is the full picture by size.

The biggest 2026 releases

SetPiecesEstimated build time
Minas Tirith (11377)8,27822 to 30 hours
Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise (72153)6,83818 to 24 hours
NINJAGO The Old Town 15th Anniversary (71861)4,85213 to 17 hours
Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear Megacar (42232)4,10421 to 28 hours
Gustav Klimt, The Kiss (31221)4,00011 to 14 hours
Main Street, U.S.A. (43302)3,89910 to 14 hours
Tower Bridge (21067)3,74510 to 13 hours
The Ministry of Magic (76476)3,5459.5 to 13 hours
Shopping Street (11371)3,4579 to 12 hours
Claude Monet, Water Lilies (31220)3,1798.5 to 11 hours
S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier (76354)3,0578 to 11 hours

Look at the Koenigsegg. At 4,104 pieces it is smaller than the Klimt, and it takes twice as long. That is Technic: sub-assemblies, gearing and pin work drop the pace from about 300 pieces per hour to about 170. Piece count alone will mislead you on any Technic set.

The weekend tier

These are the 2026 sets most people can actually finish in one go, which for many builders matters more than sheer size.

SetPiecesEstimated build time
Stranger Things: The Creel House (11370)2,5937.5 to 10 hours
Arcade Pinball Machine (11374)2,2746.5 to 9 hours
Hogwarts Castle: East Wing (76473)2,1646.5 to 8.5 hours
Golden Retriever Puppy (11384)2,1026 to 8 hours
Pikachu and Poke Ball (72152)2,0506 to 8 hours
The Mandalorian's N-1 Starfighter (75442)1,8095 to 7 hours
Orange Cat (21376)1,7555 to 7 hours
Jaguar E-type (11381)1,6825 to 6.5 hours
Sorcerer's Stone (76466)1,5744.5 to 6 hours
Boba Fett (75455)1,5444.5 to 6 hours

What 2026 tells you about LEGO sets in general

Two patterns stand out in this year's line-up.

The middle is getting crowded. A large share of the 2026 releases sit between 1,500 and 3,500 pieces, which is the 5 to 12 hour band. That is deliberate: it is the size that fits a weekend, and a set someone finishes is a set they recommend.

Collectors' Editions are the new flagship format. The Ministry of Magic, the Sorcerer's Stone and the Hogwarts East Wing are all built to slot alongside existing models rather than replace them. For build planning this is good news, because a 2,164 piece wing is a weekend, while a 6,020 piece castle is a project.

How these estimates are made

Each figure is piece count divided by a build pace, adjusted for the type of set: about 300 pieces per hour for a standard set, about 330 for large display models over 3,000 pieces, about 250 for small detailed sets, and about 170 for Technic. A 15% band either side turns each number into a range.

The method is calibrated against documented adult build times, and it puts the Millennium Falcon at 20 to 27 hours against a widely reported 20 hours. The full explanation is in our guide to build time by piece count.

For a brand new set these are estimates, and we say so on every page. Once five or more builders have timed a set in the SetSquad app, its page shows the measured median instead. If you are one of the first to build one of these, your time is the data.

Deciding what to buy

If you want the set to be an event, go above 5,000 pieces and accept that it is a multi-week project. If you want the set to be finished, stay under 3,000. And if you want a genuine challenge rather than a long one, take the Technic option at half the piece count.

Check any set on our build-time pages before you buy, and see how to judge a set before you buy for the full method.

Frequently asked

What is the biggest new LEGO set of 2026?

The Lord of the Rings: Minas Tirith (11377) is the largest major 2026 release at 8,278 pieces, with an estimated build time of 22 to 30 hours.

How long does it take to build LEGO Minas Tirith?

The LEGO Minas Tirith (11377), an 8,278 piece set, takes an estimated 22 to 30 hours for an average adult builder, typically spread across many sessions.

Which new 2026 LEGO set can be built in one weekend?

Anything up to about 3,000 pieces fits a weekend. The Stranger Things Creel House (2,593 pieces) at 7.5 to 10 hours and the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier (3,057 pieces) at 8 to 11 hours are both comfortable weekend builds.

Are these build times measured or estimated?

They are estimates based on piece count and set complexity, because new releases have few logged builds yet. Each set page switches to the measured median once five or more builders have timed it.
